About the Practice

Windermere and Bowness Medical Practice, based at Windermere Health Centre, provides NHS Primary Care Medical Services for over 5,500 people in the Windermere area.

Our aim is to provide a comprehensive range of services, of a consistently high standard, in a pleasant environment. We make considerable efforts to plan and organise the ways in which we deliver care so as to obtain the maximum benefit for the greatest number of people, within the resources available to us.

This practice owns and maintains Windermere Health Centre and we aim continually to improve the quality of the building and the amenity that it offers.

Primary Care Services are provided by a broad-based team that includes nurse practitioners, practice nurses, and attached staff such as physiotherapists, district nurses and health visitors. As a patient you may regard yourself as being registered with the practice rather than an individual doctor although your medical card will bear the name of one of the GPs.

The nature of Primary Care (General Practice) has changed rapidly over the past decade. We offer more “preventive” care, particularly in respect of heart disease, diabetes and stroke. We help patients who live with long-term conditions by means of regular review in structured clinics. In order to practise medicine well, we need to work in partnership with our patients. This type of service sits alongside the more traditional “reactive” type of care, in which we react to problems as patients bring them to us.
